Seguito di The Andromeda Strain di Michael Crichton e libro posrumo che, di Crichton, porta solo il nome per pubblicità. Non ho idea se avesse lasciato qualche appunto o se la storia sia tutta frutto della fantasia di Daniel H. Wilson, ma il risultato non è pienamente soddisfacente, come già capitato con Micro (più sul positivo) e Pirate Latitudes (delusione totale).
La storia di The Andromeda Evolution riprende le vicende del primo romanzo, dopo cinquanta anni dalla soluzione del primo incontro con Andromeda. Dei personaggi originali non ritroviamo nessuno, ma fatti, attori e vicende vengono più volte ricordati e narrate, tanto che non sembra fondamentalmente necessario aver letto anche il primo volume.
Ci sono citazioni di Crichton all'apertura di ogni capitolo e la struttura, con stralci di rapporti e report di conversazioni, secretate e non, ricorda molto quello degli anni '60. La sola differneza, ma potrebb essere un mio falso ricordo (sono passati più di trent'anni dall'ultima lettura) è che il seguito sia più eccessivo nel voler presentare un'avventura da blockbuster, con situazioni al limite dell'inverosimile.
Se si fossero trattenuti di più su questo punto, probabilmente la quarta stella non sarebbe mancata.
La lettura di Julia Whelan si è mantenuta buona per tutto il pezzo, non sono abituata a voci femminili e americane, ma non è stato male come temevo.
