Primo romanzo dedicato al War Doctor e buona introduzione del personaggio, visto solo nello speciale dei primi 50 anni della serie.
Lo scenario della Guerra del Tempo, sia dal lato gallifreyano che da quello Dalek, è ben ricostruito e e offre sia spunti interessanti che situazioni già viste.
Le ambientazioni su Gallifrey si appoggiano molto a quanto visto in altre avventure televisive e offrono spiegazioni di fatti noti al vecchio pubblico, ma di interesse per i giovani fan che possono non aver visto la parte classica della serie.
Finale agridolce, che porta alla risoluzione finale del War Doctor di concludere, in un modo o nell'altro, le ostilità.
Ottima l'interpretazione di Nicholas Briggs, che offre un'ampia varietà di caratteri ai vari personaggi, e bella la colonna sonora che, sia per le musiche che per gli effetti sonori, rendono il prodotto molto simile ad un audiodrama più classico.
